Privacy Policy
Last updated:
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Recipebook AI ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Recipebook AI / RecipeBee web app, iOS app, and related services (the "Service").
By using the Service, you consent to the practices described here. This Policy is intended to meet common privacy expectations as well as platform requirements, including Apple's App Store guidelines.
2. Information We Collect
2.1. Account Information
When you register or log in, we may collect your name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), role (e.g., user, admin), and sign-in identifiers from third-party providers (such as Apple).
2.2. Recipe & Cookbook Data
We collect content you create or upload, including recipes, cookbooks, ingredient lists, instructions, notes, tags, categories, favorites, ratings, and visibility settings (e.g., public or private).
2.3. Images & Media
We collect images you upload, as well as images generated by our AI features (such as image enhancement or multi-view). We also store associated metadata (e.g., file names, dimensions, formats, and processing parameters).
2.4. Usage Data
We automatically collect log and usage information, including IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device information, referrer URLs, pages visited, and actions taken (for example, viewing a recipe or updating a cookbook).
We also log security-relevant events such as login attempts (with masked email), authentication failures, rate-limit events, and API endpoint access patterns.
2.5. Payment & Billing Data
We use third-party payment processors (e.g., Stripe, Lemon Squeezy) to handle payments. Through them, we may receive partial payment details (such as last 4 digits of card, card brand), billing address, transaction identifiers, and subscription status. We do not store your full payment card number.
2.6. AI Processing Data
When you use AI image features, we may send images you upload and relevant prompts or parameters to AI providers (such as Google Cloud Vertex AI) for processing. Generated images and related metadata are stored in our infrastructure and associated with your account. We do not intentionally include directly identifying personal information in prompts sent to AI models, and you should avoid embedding such information in your prompts or images.
2.7. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for session management, CSRF protection, and to remember login state and preferences. On web, cookies may be set by us and by third-party service providers.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and maintain the Service: authenticate you, sync content, process AI image jobs, and manage credits, subscriptions, and billing.
- Improve and personalize: analyze usage to improve features and performance, surface relevant content, and debug issues.
- Security and fraud prevention: monitor for suspicious activity, enforce rate limits, prevent abuse, and protect the integrity of the Service.
- Communications: send transactional emails, respond to support requests, and, where permitted, send product announcements (you can opt out of marketing communications).
- Legal and compliance: comply with laws and respond to lawful requests.
4. How We Share Your Information
4.1. Service Providers
We share data with trusted service providers who assist with hosting, infrastructure, payments, email delivery, logging, monitoring, and AI processing. They are given access only as reasonably necessary to perform services on our behalf.
4.2. AI Providers (Google Vertex AI)
For image processing features, we send image data and associated parameters to Google's Vertex AI APIs. Google processes this data to generate or transform images and returns results to us. We store these results and associate them with your account.
4.3. Public Content
When you mark recipes or cookbooks as public or share them via public links, the associated content (including images and basic metadata) may be visible to anyone with access to the link and may appear in public listings or browse pages.
4.4. Legal, Protection, and Compliance
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to protect the security or integrity of the Service; to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public; or to enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
5. Data Retention
We retain account and usage data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. Recipe, cookbook, and image data are retained while associated with an active account or until you delete them. Logs may be retained for a limited time for security, debugging, and analytics purposes.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data; restrict or object to certain processing; and receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
To exercise these rights, use in-app settings where available or contact us at support@recipebook.ai. We will respond within a reasonable period in accordance with applicable law.
7. Data Transfers
Our infrastructure may be located in one or more countries, and your data may be processed and stored in jurisdictions that may have different data protection laws than your home jurisdiction. Where required, we implement appropriate safeguards when data is transferred across borders.
8. Data Security
We implement technical and organizational measures such as TLS encryption, access controls, logging, and rate limiting to protect your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information without verifiable parental consent, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us.
10. App-Specific Details (Apple iOS)
- Data collected: account details (name, email), login identifiers, recipe/cookbook data, uploaded images, usage logs, and limited billing metadata as outlined above.
- Purpose: app functionality, analytics, debugging, and billing/subscription management. We do not use data to track you across other companies' apps and websites for advertising.
- Data access and deletion: you may request account deletion and data removal via in-app settings or by contacting us. If you use Sign in with Apple, you can also manage access via your Apple ID settings.
11. Third-Party Links and Integrations
The Service may contain links to third-party sites or embed third-party content (such as payment portals). These services are governed by their own privacy policies; we encourage you to review them.
12. Changes & Contact Information
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Policy with a "Last updated" date, and may provide additional notice for material changes. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, or wish to exercise your privacy rights, please contact us at support@recipebook.ai.
